After
stopping the British Empire from expanding into the western frontier, Americans
gained new confidence of strength and pride. Many of Americans started
believing it was their destiny to control the western frontier and nothing
could stop them. Through out the nineteenth century the U.S fought and
negotiated with other countries and gained control over huge territories
belonging to Spain, Mexico, France, Britain, and the American Indians. (Don Nardo. "The War Of 1812". San Diego, CA: Lucent Books. 1991 pg. 106). After
all of the territory gained the country stretched from the Atlantic to the
Pacific Ocean. Westward expansion also created a demand to improve the
nations roads and canals. With all the wealth from the weapons
industry and territory gained in the 1800s helped the U.S eventually
become a world power.
